Welcome to the Wensum Blues Band

Meet the Band

About our Players

Dave, Vocals and Harmonica. I have been singing for about 20 years, first in Folk, then Rock and then Blues. I have been in a community rock choir for 12 years and took some singing lessons at a local music academy. As a result of this I started a band doing classic rock, blues and rock'n'roll, we did a few gigs but broke up due to lockdown and illnesses. While in the band I developed my harmonica playing, something I had been toying with for some time. I am also currently MC and sing in the house band at a monthly jam session.

I joined Wensum Blues Band at its inception in 2024 as lead singer and harmonica player.

Dave ( yes another one ), Guitar. Dave has many years of playing in bands, not only that he fixes and builds Guitars and Banjos.

Tony, Bass Guitar, Started playing in a band at 17, called ridiculously “Rabbi Johnson’s Underwater Melody Farm”, rehearsing at Chislehurst Church Hall.  We played very badly, and broke up due to “lack of talent.”

Many years later I played with “Where’s The Money” – a covers band playing blues/rock, in pubs and events around south London.  I played rhythm guitar.  It was good fun.

I didn’t really play much at all for several years, and eventually took up playing classical guitar, which I really enjoyed, and learning to read music and looking at some music theory.  Unfortunately, I got a dose of ‘frozen shoulder’ – mightily painful, which took a good two years to recover from, but now back to about 90% of movement in the left shoulder.

I’d always been really interested in playing the bass, and on moving to Norwich, one day passing Cooke’s Music Shop, walked in and bought a Squire bass, then later on a Fender Precision, and a Fender Jazz bass, which is the one I like the most.

I much prefer to play with others (playing bass alone can be a little lonely!) so I made some contacts via the Bandmix website – and that is how I met with Mark, and Dave B and Dave W.    Hopefully you will hear us play a live gig!

Mark, Drums. I have played drums in various genres, on and off for about 40 years, starting in marching bands, and then moving to Rock and Blues. I stopped playing for about 10 years, but when my wife found a few photos of me playing the drums she made the fatal error of buying me a kit, and that was it, I was back playing again.

The last 15 years I have been doing mostly concert work with Stowmarket Concert band and other brass bands, also i spent a happy couple of years with Outathablues, but that folded during Covid sadly. In the last 2 years I have taken up Jazz with a passion, being in 2 Jazz groups.

Tony contacted me in 2024 to see if I would be interested in forming a Blues band, and the rest is history, and I have discovered a new love for the Blues again, and these guys are great to play beside.

Between us all we have over 160 years of musical experience

As a band we cover a wide spectrum of the Blues scene, from early Fleetwood Mac to Dr Feelgood, and B.B King to Gary Moore, with plenty other artists chucked in for good measure. Cream, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker to name but a few, and our songbook is still growing.

We are not really a covers or tribute band, we take songs we like and put our own twist on them, and try to get feet tapping or even better bodies up dancing, with songs and tunes from across the Blues spectrum.

Fantastic! I’m from Dr Feelgood’s part of the world (The Thames Delta!) and have seen Dr Feelgood, in their various incarnations, many many times over the last 50 years. Also seen various tribute bands too, and your cover is, genuinely, right up there! More please!
